Olga's Story

Some of you have requested that I write "my story". So here goes. Please try to stay awake while reading. I moved to S.L.C. right after graduating from Bonneville. While there for only a couple of years I did some runway and photographic modeling including some t.v. commercials for car dealerships and other businessess. No biggie. Remember that song in the 60's that went something like this "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure and wear some flowers in your hair"? California Dreaming lyrics I believe. Well, I took it seriously. I went, and I'm still there. Just living the dream. I attended Rancho Santiago college and Cal State Long Beach. While there I started a stained glass business that I had for about 10 years. I drew up the patterns, cut the glass and built the windows and paid a guy to install them.It was great, I loved it. I graduated with a degree in Interior Design. Gay green (class of 64)...Glenn Green's sister, came to LA to help me celebrate for a week. During one of our "girl's night out" I met the love of my life. I was making windows at night and working as a designer during the day. In order for him to see me in the evenings, he had to learn how to build windows with me. He had an insurance business to attend to during the day.....he learned quick, we became a great team pumping out lots of windows for my clients. Everytime we completed an install, we would rush to our travel agent and buy plane tickets to some exotic place. We were gypsies for about 8-10 years just traveling the world. We have been to 32 countries and islands so far. We finally got married and bou...Expand for more
ght a house in California and in Hawaii, and we spend our time between the two locations. I don't make windows anymore, but I still have my design firm. However, I'm calling it quits after I finish this last job in Washington D.C......hopefully before our 50th reunion in August.I also have another business that I started about 3 years ago where I turn ugly, old end tables into really cute dog and cat beds. You can see them on my FB page under Kim Sison. And in my spare time, I donate my time and my talent to FURNISHING HOPE which is a wonderful organization that furnishes homes to our wounded warriors who are returning home from the battlefield. We furnish the entire house for the Vets and their families so that they have everything they need while they recuperate and get back into civilian life. Myself and several other designers furnished 18 houses in San Clemente for the wounded Vets, and let me tell you ...it was one of the greatest experiences of my life to see the faces of the vets, their wives, and 37 children when we gave them the keys to their new houses completely done. A builder donated the land and Habitat for Humanity built the homes. It's been a fairy tale my friends, a great ride. I've done all that I've wanted to do. I have been given more than I deserve, and expected. I have been blessed.. Oh...wait, I forgot the most important and rewarding part......I also have two fantastic kids, Tiffany and Tyler. AND, now I also have two grand kids, Robert 11 and Nicole 9. What more could I possibly want??? Well, maybe just more time. Now tell me your story. Olga Van Haaster Sison
